National Seniors Australia is coming to Albury to help older people improve their knowledge about how to better fund their retirement.
Basil La Brooy, from National Seniors Financial Information Desk, will present a seminar next Wednesday, 8 November, for those thinking of giving up paid work and people who are already retired.
“Many people fear they will outlive their retirement funds and it’s no wonder they don’t know what to do when they have to navigate the jargon connected with superannuation, equity release products and eligibility for an Age or Part Pension,” Mr La Brooy said.
“A lot of older people will also have to make other major life decisions, such as how to fund health care or age care for themselves, their partner or both.
“And there are those who face the dilemma of whether to downsize their home to something more suited to their needs, while fearing that costs of a new property and those associated with moving - such as stamp duty on the purchase of another property - may be unaffordable. So, they do nothing and stay where they are.”
Mr La Brooy said the information seminar was aimed at helping people understand their own situation and resources.
Topics for discussion include opportunities for those who would be fully self-funded in retirement, access to Government Income Support (GIS) and equity release products.
A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
The seminar will be held at the Commercial Club, 618 Dean Street, Albury on Wednesday, 8 November, with the door opening at 5pm for a 5:30pm start and finishing by 7.30pm.
Basil La Brooy is available for interview.
