In this edition, our cover is devoted to singer Marcia Hines, who came to Australia as a 16-year-old to star in the stage musical Hair. Almost 50 years on, Marcia is well and truly an Aussie, has an Order of Australia to her credit, and is an advocate for Diabetes Australia to raise awareness about Type 1 and Type 2.

Our research team at National Seniors has been busy, and you can read the key findings of two new reports in the News section. Research Director Professor John McCallum discusses the difficulties some older Australians have using the internet for essential information and services, and why not everyone should be forced to log on.

He also reveals that many people are failing to plan financially for longer lives, and what some of the options might be to ensure we have sufficient funds to pay for aged care.

Making ends meet is a constant challenge for many older people and National Seniors has made a budget submission to the Federal Government that it describes as “commonsense”. You can read Chief Advocate Ian Henschke’s article on what the key budget inclusions for seniors should be.
