Single pensioners will receive an extra $5.90 per fortnight and couples an additional $8.80 after the latest half yearly round of indexing came into effect from 20 March.
“These increases will see the maximum age pension rise to $860.20 a fortnight for single pensioners and $1,296.80 for couples,” Social Services Minister Scott Morrison said.
“Income tested part-pensioners will receive a double boost to their payments as lower deeming rates come into effect, amounting to $200 million in additional payments over the forward estimates,” he said.
Morrison said that the indexation of the pension occurred in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
The Newstart Allowance, Parenting Payment Partnered, Widow Allowance, Partner Allowance and Sickness Allowance also increased from 20 March.
