Southern states celebrate Seniors Week

South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania will all celebrate the benefits of being a senior as part of Seniors Week celebrations.

The Victorian Seniors Festival is celebrating its 30th year during the week from 7 to 14 October 2012, with more than 1000 activities on offer.

Victorian Seniors Card holders will travel free on metropolitan trains, trams and buses, including V/Line services to Melton and Sunbury during the festival week.

In South Australia, seniors have the chance to celebrate for a whole month with the Every Generation Festival to be celebrated throughout October.

The SA Festival aims to demonstrate that people improve with age and that their contributions to society are valuable, welcomed and essential.

In Tasmania, seniors are being encouraged to keep physically and mentally active by taking part in Seniors Week 2012 activities from 1-7 October.

This year there are around 270 events on offer around the state, from swimming, tai chi and laser skirmish to social media use and bicycle maintenance.
