National Seniors Member Magazine - Election Special
March - May 2019
This edition of the National Seniors member magazine is designed to keep you informed about issues of critical importance to mature-age Australians.
The first is the federal election, which is expected in May. Seniors’ issues are already front and centre of this poll and we have put together a six-page Election Special that begins on page 12. We urge you to become involved, and stay in touch with what’s happening through our dedicated election page.
After just two weeks in, the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety is already throwing light on key issues that need addressing. Our CEO and Research Director, Professor John McCallum, was among witnesses on the first day of the hearings. You can read his report on page 10, along with how you can voice your concerns to the Royal Commission.
We continue our coverage of this landmark inquiry on page 20, as our Chief Advocate Ian Henschke discusses staffing of aged and home care, particularly staffing ratios that professional groups representing nurses, doctors, and specialist geriatricians have argued are essential to ensure older Australians receive safe and best practice care.
In this bumper election special issue, we’re also launching a new partnership with this year’s Australian Masters Games, and more broadly, the Confederation of Sport (CAS).
You’ll also find our regular features on older Australians doing extraordinary things, travel, entertainment and lots more.
