From July next year, eligible seniors in the Northern Territory will receive a $500 VISA debit card which replaces existing travel vouchers.
The $500 payment will be issued to all NT Seniors Recognition Scheme members and can be used towards travel (including online travel bookings), accommodation, electricity, and water.
The card, which can now also be used towards fuel costs, allows immediate access to the payment and removes the need for reimbursement.
Members with a valid and unused travel voucher can apply later this year to change their voucher to a card.
The debit card will look and operate like a regular VISA card and it will be PIN protected. Members won’t be able to withdraw cash.
