The Retirement Living Options program was introduced after the Queensland Government last year tightened legislation affecting retirement villages and manufactured homes to better protect residents.
The free sessions provide information about the key characteristics of retirement villages and manufactured home parks; factors to consider when deciding where you’ll live; recent changes to the law that provide better consumer protections; and where to go for more information, advice and support.
Guest speakers vary but will either be a Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland Peer Educator or a solicitor from Caxton Legal Centre’s Queensland Retirement Village and Parks Advisory Service (QRVPAS). Peer Educators, who are seniors, are fully trained and volunteer their time to talk through information in a way that is easy to understand.
Many of the events are hosted by National Seniors branches and people attending are welcome to stay for a meeting of the branch after the presentation.
