It’s your day. Enjoy.
We don’t know who Alex Haley is but Dr Google quotes him/her with saying "Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children."
October 27 marks Grandparents Day.
By passing on their heritage, skills and experience to third generations, grandparents provide a foundation of identity and connection that helps younger generations build enduring relationships with family and community.
It seems the day is American, originally, proclaimed in 1978 by then President Jimmy Carter at the instigation of a keen housewife from West Virginia, Marian McQuade.
Thank you to all the grandparents for your love and support of your grandchildren. Do something special with your family to celebrate and sneak a ‘fiver’ in their little hands to let them know how much they should love you too!
In a recent issue of Member Matters, we asked our members what it means to be a grandparent in 2019.
Find out what they had to say. Log in to your National Seniors account and keep reading via the button below.
