Many older Australians are using digital technology in their everyday lives, with varying levels of proficiency and comfort among those who are already online.

These are just a few of the findings contained in the latest National Seniors Australia research report - Senior Surfers: Diverse levels of digital literacy among older Australians.

A total of 47,280 National Seniors members with an email address were invited to complete the survey which helped inform the findings contained in this report. The survey was also made available to the general public and members wishing to complete it on paper.

Participants’ responses revealed diversity in terms of ability, comfort and attitudes engaging in an online world.

While the issue of a digital divide remains relevant to this population, it is important to acknowledge that reductionist stereotypes of all older Australians being left behind by technology are not only harmful but also unfounded.
