Secret Garden x National Seniors Australia 50th Anniversary Concert Series
To celebrate 50 years of National Seniors Australia, we're proud to partner with internationally acclaimed group Secret Garden (the creators of the song, You Raise Me Up) for a special anniversary concert series. This exclusive celebration will bring together members, supporters, volunteers, partners, families and friends for an unforgettable evening of music, memories and connection, honouring the stories, achievements and people who have shaped National Seniors Australia over the past five decades. The concert series will be held in major Australian cities, giving members and supporters the opportunity to celebrate close to home.
National Seniors Gratitude Week is a nationwide celebration recognising volunteers and community champions who make life better for others.
From helping neighbours and supporting local organisations to caring for family members and contributing to community groups, volunteers enrich lives every day.
Many of these contributions happen quietly, without recognition.
This year, we want to change that.
Who Are You Grateful For?

Experience Matters
For 50 years, National Seniors Australia has stood up for older Australians. Championing their rights, recognising their experience, and helping ensure their voices are heard.
Founded in 1976 by Everald Compton, the organisation began life as Later Years. From the start, it was built on a simple but powerful belief: that older people have knowledge, experience and wisdom that should continue to shape our communities and our nation.
On National Seniors Australia's 50th anniversary, we reflect on the people, moments, and ideas that helped create a movement for older Australians.
Founded by someone who turned up
Everald Compton has often described himself as “a boy from the bush who has tried to make a difference”. Born and raised in Linville, Queensland, he went on to become a community leader, advocate, author, philanthropist and founder of civic projects.
His philosophy is clear: “the world is run by those who turn up.”
That spirit of action helped inspire the creation of Later Years. Everald saw the need for an organisation that would give older Australians a stronger public voice – one that could challenge, debate, share, care and advocate for better outcomes.
As National Seniors Australia celebrates 50 years, we remember the people who turned up, spoke up and helped build a movement. The story of National Seniors Australia is one of service, representation and lasting impact.
