In 1912, Dora Thompson leaves Sydney for New Guinea, where an unexpected turn of events draws her into a fascinating world of German and English residents as the shadow of war looms. More than a century later, filmmaker Chloe travels to the Adelaide Hills to explore her family history and make a film inspired by her great-grandmother Dora’s writings. As Chloe retraces Dora’s remarkable life, she discovers connections between their stories that she never expected. Across generations, both women embark on a courageous search for purpose, independence and happiness in unlikely places.
