Act one

After making your own way to Perth, you’ll board the Indian Pacific, where grand touches of bygone train travel meet modern comfort. Home for the next two nights, you’ll settle into your cabin, mingle with like-minded travellers in the lounge car, and feel the excitement build as the mighty train pulls away from the station.

Clickety-clacking through the lush Swan Valley and into the vastness of the Nullarbor Plain, you’ll spend the next couple of days marvelling at the kaleidoscope of patterns and colours in the dreamy landscapes, dining like royalty, and exploring legendary Kalgoorlie—renowned as one of Australia’s most iconic gold mining regions.

Off-train experiences are a signature part of the journey and are included in the fare (unless otherwise specified). In Kalgoorlie, you can take in the scale of The Super Pit—one of Australia’s most successful gold-producing sites—try your hand at gold panning, or enjoy local tales of the township’s colourful and storied past.

Interval

Disembarking the Indian Pacific in Adelaide, you’ll spend two nights at the Crowne Plaza, giving you the perfect opportunity to explore the city at your leisure. Be sure to book a tour to Adelaide’s closest wine region—the beautiful McLaren Vale, renowned for its picturesque vineyards and home to some of the world’s oldest and most celebrated wines.

From Adelaide, it’s a change of tracks, train, and scenery as you head north aboard one of the world’s most iconic trains—The Ghan. Travelling through the rugged and colourful Flinders Ranges, you’ll wake to a breathtaking sunrise over the remote outpost of Marla (population around 70) before arriving in Alice Springs for an unforgettable taste of the Outback.

Whether you choose a cultural walk around Standley Chasm, a bush hike through Simpsons Gap, a bike ride along the Todd River, or the scenic A Town Like Alice coach tour, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into a postcard at every turn.

In Katherine, gorges, caves, and Indigenous cultural experiences await. Cruise through the majestic Nitmiluk Gorge, admire ancient rock art, explore the Cutta Cutta Caves, or treat yourself to an unforgettable helicopter ride over the gorge. Your journey concludes in Darwin, but the memories will stay with you forever.
