“We know that stories have power. It can take courage to reflect, to speak honestly, and to be seen. But your story might resonate with someone else and help them feel less alone, more hopeful or more understood. I encourage you to join us as we make space for older voices to be heard, respected and celebrated”.

So says Bev Lange, executive officer, Elder Abuse Action Australia.

“Help us share more stories from older Australians to raise awareness of the issues, ambitions, and contributions of older people in our society.”

Compass and Elder Abuse Action Australia (EAAA) are dedicated to combatting the abuse of older people and they recognise that being heard is a vital part of this process.

Raising awareness of aged care, ageism, grandparent alienation, and other important topics affecting older people is about hearing first-hand about the experiences and acting on this knowledge to build a safer and more respectful society.

This year, they want to showcase stories from people over 50 right through to people over 100 in all their diversity.

Compass and EAAA will prepare a short report on the key insights from their stories as part of their campaign to acknowledge World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on 15 June.

Take a few minutes and share your story. It may help more people than you think.

Follow the easy process to share your story. It can be submitted online or sent via post.

Submissions close on 31 May 2025. A summary will be shared on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on 15 June.
