Older people will continue to access CHSP entry-level support to live independently and safely at home.
Extending CHSP gives certainty to older people accessing services. It will also support providers and workers to continue delivering the services, including those in regional, rural, and remote locations.
There have been significant changes recently to improve the aged care sector, including the Aged Care Act 2024 and Support at Home. Continued refinements will ensure quality services are delivered to older people.
Community feedback for long-term design
The government is committed to providing a consistent experience across the CHSP and Support at Home programs. This will help older people get the care they need, including:
Essential services like cleaning, transport and social support
Complex care like nursing care, occupational therapy and help with showering.
CHSP is a valued program – entry-level support is essential to aged care in Australia. However, improvement is needed to meet the demands of our ageing population.
The Department of Health, Disability, and Ageing will begin consultation this year on a long-term design for an entry-level program that:
Is sustainable and better integrated with Support at Home
Ensures fair and equitable contributions to home care costs
Supports early intervention services to reduce system pressures.
To participate in consultation and stay up to date, subscribe to the department's newsletters and mailing lists.
