What is HELF?
The optional higher everyday living fee (HELF) was introduced on 1 November 2025.

Some aged care homes offer optional lifestyle services that go beyond the standard required by law.
These services can attract an additional fee, known as “higher everyday living fees”.
The Department of Health, Disability, and Ageing is reviewing these fee arrangements and want to hear from you about your experiences.
Whether you’re an older person, family member, registered supporter or advocate, your feedback is important and, according to the department, will help make sure these services and fees are fair for everyone.
