Share the love on Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is often caricaturised as a flurry of cards, flowers, and phone calls –but at its heart, it’s something much deeper.

It is a day set aside to acknowledge the love, care, and quiet strength of the women who have shaped our lives – not only mothers, but grandmothers, aunts, sisters, souses, friends, and mentors who have offered guidance and support along the way. 

The modern celebration of Mother’s Day began in the early 20th century, inspired by American activist Anna Jarvis, who wanted a dedicated day to honour the sacrifices mothers made for their children. 

While it has since become widely commercialised, the original intent still resonates: to pause, reflect, and express genuine appreciation. 

For many seniors, Mother’s Day can also be a moment of remembrance – honouring mothers and other loved ones no longer with us and passing stories down through generations. 

Celebration does not have to be extravagant or expensive to be meaningful. It may be a cliche, but it really is the sincerity of the thought that counts. 

At the same time, gift‑giving can be a joyful way to show appreciation – especially when it supports shared experiences, simple pleasures, or a little well‑earned pampering.
