Nominations open for 2026 Everald Compton Community Champion Medal
This prestigious award celebrates everyday people who make a significant difference in their communities.

To coincide with International Volunteer Day, 5 December, National Seniors Australia (NSA) has announced that nominations are open for the 2026 Everald Compton Community Champion Medal (ECCCM).
NSA founder, Everald Compton, was joined by NSA board members, Ross Glossop, and Kathryn Greiner, as well as NSA CEO, Chris Grice, and 2024 ECCCM recipient, Wayne Sticher, for a launch event on the Gold Coast this week.
The distinguished award celebrates everyday champions who make a significant difference in their communities.
“At NSA, we are constantly reminded of the amazing, yet humble members of our older community. From volunteering, donating time and skills, to caring for others – what they do may not always be visible, but it certainly makes an impact,” Mr Grice said.
“Last year’s medal, we learned about truly inspiring and selfless individuals, including winner, Wayne Sticher, who introduced Cycling Without Age (CWA) to the Gold Coast in January 2020.
“CWA provides free trishaw rides for older people, people living with a disability, and people impacted by loneliness, enabling them to enjoy the experience of nature, moving, and socialising.
“Too often, older Australians get cast aside. But their value and contributions make our communities and country what they are today.
“At 94 years old, Everald, and at 67, Wayne, are shining examples of the experience, wisdom, and spirit that comes with age. A combination we need to celebrate!
“We look forward to learning about the 2026 ECCCM nominees and the way they help shape their communities for the better.
“Today, on International Volunteer Day, we acknowledge the value and contribution of older Australians, including volunteers like Wayne and those in 2026 we are yet to discover.”
Nomination criteria for the ECCCM include impact on community, leadership and inspiration, community involvement, inclusivity and accessibility, and intergenerational activities.
In 2026, in recognition of the prevalence and impact of dementia as well as mental health conditions, a category for support in the areas of dementia care and mental health will also be introduced.
