Big changes are coming to in-home aged care – and now is your chance to ask questions and get clear answers from the experts.

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is hosting a free Support at Home webinar designed especially for older Australians, their families, and carers.

It will be held from 2-3pm AEST on Thursday, 14 August.

The webinar will provide an important update on the new Support at Home program, which will replace the current Home Care Packages Program and Short-Term Restorative Care Programme from 1 November 2025.

You'll hear from a panel of experts who will explain key aspects of the new system, including:

  • Participant contributions – what you'll be expected to pay.

  • Quarterly budgets – how funding will be managed and reported.

  • Available services – what kind of help you can expect in your home.

This will be followed by an extended live Q&A session, giving you the opportunity to ask your own questions or raise concerns. You can submit a question in advance when you register or ask it during the webinar.

The panel will feature experienced professionals from the department who are working directly on aged care reform, including:
  • Michael Lye, deputy secretary of Ageing and Aged Care Group.
  • Amy Laffan, first assistant secretary, Support at Home Division.
  • Sharon Chuter, assistant secretary, Care at Home Branch.

This is your chance to hear directly from the people shaping the future of aged care — and to make sure your voice is heard.

If you can’t attend the live event, a recording and transcript will be made available afterwards.
