National Seniors Australia has been active in Port Macquarie since the early 1990’s and after a brief break in 2004 restarted in November 2005 with a new Executive and an expanded membership. As of 2014 we have over 100 members with between 40 and 55 regularly attending our meetings.
NSA throughout Australia acts as a link between the ‘senior’ community and all levels of Government bringing matters relating to the ‘over 50’s’ to the attention of Ministers and the various Departments of Government. Lobbying is done through the National Executive and Branches are encouraged to bring relevant matters to their attention, thus highlighting the concerns of Senior’s.
Our Branch meets on the second Tuesday of each month (except January) at the Port City Bowling Club in Owen Street, Port Macquarie. Members, invited guests and visitors assemble at 10 am for tea/coffee prior to the start of the meeting at 10.30 am. The formal part of the meeting is covered during the first half hour and we then continue with general information relevant to the over 50’s. Each month we have a guest speaker covering a variety of topics from Local Government, SES, Fire Brigade and other matters relating to Health & Wealth issues. The meetings are friendly and informal and run for approximately two hours. All seniors are welcome and we look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.
The aim of the Branch is to provide a contact point for members to access the lobbying process, however we do encourage the social interaction of members and arrange at least two events each month. These could be a Car Rally, Dinner or Lunch function, BBQ’s and theatre events in our local Players Theatre. Port Macquarie Hastings is a beautiful coastal area with great beaches and walks so we have a wide variety of activities available to us.
