If you are considering government-funded aged care services, one question you may have is – how much it will cost?

Planning aged care costs for yourself or a loved one can be daunting, but it does not have to be. My Aged Care has taken the guesswork out of estimating what you might need to pay with the free online Fee Estimator tool.

What is the Fee Estimator?

The Fee Estimator is a simple online calculator. It can estimate how much your government-funded aged care services might cost. The tool:

  • Estimates Home Care Package costs.
  • Estimates costs for a place in an aged care home.

All you need to do is enter a few details about your income, assets and household, and the Fee Estimator will calculate what your fees might be.

Once you calculate your estimate, you can print or save a copy for personal use.

How does it work?

How to use the Fee Estimator tool:

1. Visit the My Aged Care website

2. Choose whether you are estimating fees for a Home Care Package or a place in an aged care home.

3. Provide basic information about your income and financial assets.

4. The fee estimator will then provide a rough estimate based on your answers above.

5. You can print or email a copy of your fee estimate to yourself or a loved one.

The Fee Estimator shows you the estimated amount you might need to pay. It also estimates the contribution the government could make towards your total aged care package.

To use the Fee Estimator, you will need to report:

  • Your relationship status. Are you single, married or in a de facto relationship?
  • Your annual income and total financial assets, including any combined income and assets.

Once you calculate your estimate, you can print or save a copy for personal use.

Is the information I give the Fee Estimator confidential?

The information you enter into the Fee Estimator is confidential and will not be used for any purpose except to calculate an estimate.

The Australian Government will not store the information you enter into the Fee Estimator. The information is deleted once you close your internet browser.

If I am applying for government-funded aged care, why do I still need to pay for my services?

If you are eligible for government-funded aged care services, the government will help pay for some or all of your costs.

The exact amount you pay will depend on your financial situation, the services you receive, and the provider you choose.

The Fee Estimator is a guide to what you might have to pay. It is not an official statement of what your fees will be. When you start an application for government-funded aged care services, you may need to complete an income or means assessment with Services Australia.
