Maggie Beer seeks your thoughts on food
They say we are what we eat. This survey aims to find out about our diets and cooking habits.
The Maggie Beer Foundation is seeking the opinions of senior Australians about how and what they eat.
The HomePlate Project is a national initiative exploring how older people experience food, cooking, and eating while living at home.
“By listening directly to lived experience and identifying practical, real‑world insights, the project aims to support joy, connection, and wellbeing around food as we age,” the foundation says.
“We are seeking responses from people aged 65 and over who are living at home, across metropolitan, regional, and rural Australia.”
The short national survey explores:
What’s working well with food and eating at home
What can be challenging
What could make things better in the future.
The survey, which takes about 10 minutes to complete, is confidential and voluntary, and focuses on lived experience and practical ideas.
It is available here until 29 March.
The Maggie Beer Foundation is a charity that aims to improve the food experience and quality of life for current and future generations of older people.
It was established by Maggie Beer, a celebrity chef, restaurateur, and entrepreneur who has made it her mission to research how the food we eat can impact brain health and general wellbeing.
Maggie Beer Foundation CEO, Jane Mussared, says this project, supported by the Wicking Trust, takes the foundation’s advocacy and expertise beyond its work in aged care facilities.
“We are taking our passion and knowledge from the aged care kitchen to the broader community – into people’s homes, neighbourhoods, and everyday lives,” she said.
“Food is not just fuel; it is also about memory, culture, belonging, and joy. Every older Australian deserves that.”
