National Seniors supporters drive away with $250,000 prize
A couple from NSW won a VW Kampervan and more than $100,000 in gold bullion thanks to Play For Purpose.
A last-minute decision to buy a raffle ticket has really paid off for a couple of long-time National Seniors Australia supporters from Manly in NSW.
They’ve won first prize in the $250,000 Play For Purpose raffle number 19, which includes a Volkswagen Crafter Kampervan and more than $100,000 in gold bullion.
That means they’ll no longer have to rent a camper to visit family interstate or tick off their dream destinations.
The grey nomads purchased just one Play For Purpose ticket for $10 in support of National Seniors – an organisation very close to their hearts.
“Oh, my goodness. That’s fantastic!” the winning husband said when Play For Purpose rang him with the good news – something he described as a “once in a lifetime call”.
“Wow. I only bought the tickets last night – right before the draw closed!
“When your number first came up, I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, it’s another spam call.’ But I’m so glad I answered.”
The winner said he was just about to plan a road trip to Western Australia.
“We have children spread out across Australia, but we haven’t seen much of Western Australia yet,” he said.
“I actually tried to look for a campervan for (our) trip. It turned out to be really expensive. It just was out of our price range. But now, we’ve got our very own!”
His wife added: “This is just wonderful. We’re retired, and we’ll make plenty use out of it.”
The winner was asked why he bought his ticket via National Seniors.
“I’ve supported National Seniors for quite a while now. I’ve always thought, ‘Why not! It’s the right thing to do!’,” he said.
“I’ve been purchasing tickets into the raffle since 2020. We’re retired and in that age bracket and we wanted to give back.
“National Seniors does a fantastic job helping older Australians tackle age-related issues. We appreciate what they do for us.”
If you purchase through National Seniors, we will receive 50% of your $10 ticket price. The rest goes towards the prizes and some of the costs of running the raffle, with other administrative costs met by The Lott.
The funds raised through Play For Purpose go directly towards our world-class research and advocacy work to influence government policy and drive better outcomes for older Australians.
Current campaigns include Fairness in Retirement Income, Let Pensioners Work and Fix Pension Poverty.
With the drawing of raffle number 19, tickets are now on sale for Play For Purpose raffle number 20, which will be open until 14 September.
This time, the winner could be cruising down the highway in a stunning, all-electric BMW iX3 M Sport, complete with leather sport seats, surround sound and panorama glass sunroof, valued at more than $132,000.
This $250,000 first prize package also includes $100,000 in cashable gold bullion and a shopping spree worth more than $17,000.
There are also hundreds of runner-up prizes, including gift vouchers with a range of popular retailers including Woolworths and JB Hi-Fi.
If you buy your ticket before 2 August, you’ll have a chance to win the Early Bird Bonus – a $10,000 Woolworths Wish gift voucher.
