Refresh of Star Ratings for residential aged care


Department calls for feedback, with changes to the way ratings are calculated reflecting the new Aged Care Act.

The Federal Department of Health and Aged Care wants your feedback on how ratings are calculated and other proposed improvements.  

Star Ratings for residential aged care helps older people and their families to compare aged care homes. 

Some of the ways ratings are calculated are changing, following the commencement of the new Aged Care Act

The department wants your feedback on: 

  • How the compliance rating is calculated  
  • How the staffing rating is calculated 

  • Additional changes based on early feedback from an evaluation. 

To get involved, visit the department’s Engagement Hub to: 

  • Register for a consultation session 

  • Complete the survey 

  • Lodge a written submission 

  • Read the consultation paper.
